Hi, I'm a 21 year old female and my boyfriend of one year broke up with me two months ago because we kept fighting and he told me the fights were hurting him. Right after he broke up with me he told me that he wanted to remain friends. I was hesitant about the idea of staying friends (one of the reasons why we fought was because he was jealous that I stayed friends with my first ex). I agreed to staying on friendly terms. Then a week later he told me that he never wanted to talk to me ever again and that we should both go our separate ways. I was hurt (yet again) but I agreed and we stopped talking. Then a few weeks later he was e-mailing me, trying to have a friendly conversation (he was asking me questions about my plans for summer and such). I knew that he maybe wanted to stay on friendly terms with me (again) so I stopped e-mailing him and decided to send him a text on his 21st birthday to wish him happy birthday and to offer to buy him a drink someday. Well, to my surprise, he was excited to hear from me and took up the offer and then a few days later he asked me what my schedule was like for the next few weeks before I leave the country (I leave in like 4 days now). I told him that I had to go home for two weeks but that I would contact him when I was back in town. Well, when I got back into town I e-mailed him and told him that he could let me know whenever he wanted to go out for his "birthday drink" and I told him my available times before I left the country. He then responded saying that he wasn't sure if he could because he was busy (and he just gave some lame excuses). Now, I'm pretty sure that he doesn't want to go anymore and I'm just confused on why he keeps wanting to be friends then not wanting to be friends... any ideas? Should I even bother with this nonsense? Thanks for reading this (I know it was long). (BTW: I was his first girlfriend and he was my second boyfriend).

sounds like a jerk you should stop talking to him, hes messing with your mind. I once had a relationship and the guy said he would remain friends but then he didn't, and started to talk about me behind my back.
