So, here's the story:

My sister is trying to decide whether to work for her future husband's family business instead of her own family business. She posted a status message on Facebook about it. Then friends and families started commenting. We, her siblings, are advising her to stay based on their present situation. With all the things we are seeing, hearing and experiencing with her fiance, it is best if she stayed with our family business for self-preservation in case things work out. She has a friend that was very traditional and kept saying that she should go for it and that its a big honor to be asked, without even knowing anything about their current situation. This friend was also bashing our comments like we're such bad and selfish siblings cos we were advising her to stay. We told him to not comment if he doesn't even know whats going on.

My sister told that friend only part of the story why we feel that way. So now he feels that it was a shallow reason why we want her to stay.(it is not shallow!) He even flaunted that he knows everything (which he didn't/only my sister's edited version) and that he is sticking to his advice. He was even lecturing us that we should respect her decision and be supportive. We are just giving her sound advice. we are full support with whatever it is that she will do. (even if we think its wrong)

My conclusion is that she only told her friend only half the story so that they (sister&fiance) wouldn't look bad. She betrayed us by making us look like brats (selfish / non supportive / non understanding). She deceived her friend by making him think its already the complete story. I think it's probably very stressful to be torn between the two--she loves you guys, and she loves her fiance; she is part of your family, and she is about to be part of his family. That would be a hard situation if you want to please both parties, and she probably didn't think about betraying you when she told her friend the edited version... I'm sure she didn't want to be judged, and maybe thought he would give better/more relevant advice if he only knew part of it.

So, in conclusion, I think you're right, but it might not be as malicious as it seems. She seems to be torn between the two and wants unbiased advice.
