I am at a crossroads, as I am about to enter college and I don't know what I want to do for the next 40 years of my life. I am greatly interested in the following 2 professions, so which would you recommend?
Geologist/Geophysicist
-Requires Masters of Science in respected field, PHD if I want to teach.
-Geology has been my passion since a young age, would have high level of job satisfaction.
-Virtually no unemployment in industry, salaries range from 70,000 entry level (0 exp) to 250,000 with 10 year experience.
-Job is mostly done in the field out in nature. Demanding both physically and mentally, but it is somewhat adventurous working in some of the most remote areas of the world. Being out in the wilderness for extended periods keeps you fit, but it can also be taxing. Travel is a large part of the job, so no time for family life.
-Can work in academia, oil & gas, geological engineering, and mineral exploration.
_Geologist are "down to earth" and love beer haha..
Businessman
-Traditional cubical job working for a corporation, offers stability.
-Requires a B.A and perhaps an M.B.A.
-Allows time for a family life.
-Opportunity to get into something huge and make a small fortune, but also susceptible to becoming a corporate job.
-May be extremely boring and normal.
-Salary is 60,000 to 120,000 depending on education and years of experience.
