1. My computer came with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

2. I tried to do a factory install (which you are given a 1-time use with Toshiba laptops), but it FAILED. Probably because I restarted instead of shutting down before performing.

3. Used the only disc I had available. which happened to be Windows 7 Ultimate x32. (Arghhlaksf.)

4. I finally received the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 disc, so I tried to install it on boot up. It wouldn't recognize the disc--(because the OS I have now is x32.)


I tried reformatting and just deleting altogether... none of which has worked. Windows 7 x32 is here to stay, dammit.


Is there any way I can completely get rid of my current operating system (what happened when the Toshiba factory reinstall FAILED (yes, caps again is necessary to express frustration)) or to install x64 over x32?

Every Windows 7 disk I've seen to date is made to install not on bootup, but once your PC is booted up, and you're at the desktop, then you insert the disk and run the installation file. Now I'm =not= saying that's the kind of software yours is, am just saying that's the only kind of seen, so perhaps that's what you have and that could be why it didn't install. So, have you tried that method? Just insert the disk and then open up your CD/DVD directory (if it doesn't automatically start to install) and install it that way.

If that doesn't work, then, go into your BIOS and make the CD/DVD drive the 1st choice for boot up on the bootup order selection. Right now, it's going to be hard drive, thus, if the type of software disk you have is one that installs upon bootup, then the laptop is never going to go to the CD drive for installation because the HD option is overriding it and loading the current OS. So change it to CD/DVD. Then reboot with the CD/DVD in the drive. In this method you should be provided the option to reformat your HD, assuming this is the type of software disk you have.

Also, make sure you've got a full version of Windows 7 and not an "update". The update software version WILL NEVER update your 32-bit to the 64-bit no matter what you do.

And lastly, if you're not using a legitimate, licensed copy, once you load it, you won't be able to activate it.
