Yesterday my friend wrote up the exact amount I owed him for rent. I am staying for three months, but I moved out yesterday after this because I didn't want to pay no more. He and his other roommate told me it was okay to stay without paying rent and I was never told I'd have to pay. ( I was planning on paying some amount at the end to say thanks).
I'm not even a subletter, I'm just staying at there place until I leave at the end of the Summer. The friend also is charging the other rommates mom for the two weeks she is staying here. Basically, he calculated how much the rent was per day and divided up by the amount of ppl that was present. So he is only paying for the time he was here for the month and making me and the other roommate and his mom to cover the costs for the first few weeks of the month.
Mathematically what he is doing makes sense, but as friends??? First of all, he would have to pay no matter what whether someone was here in the beginning of the month, so why is he making others pay for those days.
Me and the other roommate moved so much crap up four stairs to move in and fixed and bought small things to furnish the place and it's not like we're charging others for that cost?
Am I overreacting? I plan on paying him for what he charges me but i want to at least tell him this is wrong. Should I or is he right?

You owe your way in life. It is not his responsibility to support you. If you were really a good friend you would never ask anyone to pay your way in life and you would pay what he is asking and move on.
Rent must be paid no matter what furnishings you decided to add to the place. You don't rent an apt. and tell the landlord, sorry I bought furnishings so I am not paying rent. He would evict you.
Morally, he is right. I don't get why you are so offended over being asked to pay your own way in life?
