I have liked this guy since the middle of the summer last year. We e-mailed a lot over the summer and I finally got the courage to ask him for his cell phone number. We see each other almost every week (unless we have work) at youth group. He's really sweet and nice to everyone, very much like a gentleman. I don't think he likes to disappoint people. I told him about half a year ago that I thought I liked him, because friends had told me that he thought I liked him and he wasn't really interested. He said that he really liked me as a friend and that there is a possibility that he could like me in the future. I know he wasn't just trying to make me feel better, because he's very genuine like that.
We've gotten closer over the past few months and I asked him to prom as a friend. He said that he'd love to come as a friend. We hung out a month or so ago and had so much fun. We went to prom and he agreed to dance at a slow dance with me.
I do have a few problems though. I think I text him too much (but he still answers them as soon as he can – normally within a day) and I told him that I had been emotionally abused by the last person I liked.
I know we're just friends. Do I even have a shot with him? Is there any advice you could give on getting closer to him? Is it worth it to pursue a relationship?

Notice he is saying as a friend. You asked him for his number; he didn't ask for your number. You ask him to prom; he didn't ask you to prom. He said yes I would love to go as a friend. By the time your out of school y'all will be going separate ways. whatever you do just don't lay down with him. He seems like he don't want a relationship as bad as you do cause if he did he would tell you by now.
